Chaoyang District has been characterized by business prosperity in form of large dazzling shopping malls, featured blocks and diversified dining options. Under the ongoing Beijing Shopping Season, Chaoyang District offers endless possibilities and options for residents. There are many foreign-related institutions or venues such as Beijing International Convention Centre, China World Trade Centre, China International Exhibition Centre, China-Japan Friendship Exchange Centre, Lufthansa Centre, and Friendship Store, which make the district an important area hosting various foreign affairs activities in the capital.

The district also owns the first batch of 10 blocks characterized by cultural and touristic consumption, including Wangjing Walk, Solana, District 21 BLOCK in Hopson One, 798 Art Zone, Changying Business District, Taikoo Li Sanlitun, Chaoyang Joy City, Panjiayuan Flea Market, Lido Commercial Centre in Jiangtai and Maple Drive-In Movie Theatre Park. The district will strive to achieve the interconnected consumption development in culture, tourism and shopping by planning various business formats such as cultural and creative shops, bookstores and entertainment venues, forging high-quality projects that combine culture and tourism and forming a new consumption landmark of "culture + tourism + commerce".

Through making the best of the city's ecological and cultural resources, and integrating public spaces of different types and scales, such as parks, green spaces, waterfront spaces, streets, squares, etc., the district has strengthened the interconnection between public spaces and important urban transportation nodes and large-scale neighbourhoods, and enhance the integration of multiple functions such as residence, commerce, culture, and sports to provide quality public space for the residents nearby.

Numerous public spaces have been created to satisfy residents’ demands for culture, leisure, sports and other activities. To name a few, there are Chaoyang Cultural Centre, Chaoyang Museum of Urban Planning, Beijing Folk Arts Museum, Beijing Lizhitang Imperial Examination Plaque Museum, China National Film Museum and Chaoyang Gymnasium. The district is going to define a "Chaoyang Mode" by connecting the dots of building "the Museum City, the Reading City, and the Art City" in the key tasks of making public cultural services, accessible, diverse, digital and synergetic', and all will be achieved through further optimization of the comprehensive public services and network.
