Factors Make Chaoyang District Stand Out in Beijing
Chaoyang District in Beijing boasts numerous distinctions that set it apart as a top region among the other districts in Beijing. With its largest parks, trendiest shopping malls, most extensive presence of multinational enterprises and regional headquarters, and stunning urban rivers and dazzling airways, the district offers visitors and residents a diverse array of attractions. Moreover, the district is distinguished by the warmth and hospitality of its local residents. How could the district stand out in various fields in Beijing?
Chaoyang District is renowned for its collection of Beijing's landmarks. Among these noteworthy sites are the National Stadium (Bird's Nest), Water Cube, China National Convention Center, National Speed Skating Oval (aka the Ice Ribbon), New Workers' Stadium, and Beijing Capital International Airport, all of which contribute to the district's international reputation. Most of the foreign embassies in Beijing are located in three main regions within the district, which are situated near Jianguomen, Sanlitun, and Liangmaqiao. Besides, the fourth region under construction is still located in the district.
Chaoyang District features a thriving economy, evidenced by its impressive number of financial institutions which now exceed 1,600. These institutions include all foreign-funded automobile finance companies and foreign-funded reinsurance companies, as well as 80 percent of international financial organizations and foreign-funded corporate banks in Beijing. In 2022, 121 buildings in the Beijing Central Business District generated over CNY 100 million in tax revenue, with three surpassing CNY 5 billion. The central area of CBD also achieved exceptional operating revenue per square kilometer, exceeding CNY 100 billion. As a top consumption hub in Beijing, the district's business districts account for 60 percent of the city's total, with more than half of the first and flagship stores in Beijing located here. Notably, the total tourism revenue of the district ranked first in the city in 2022.
Chaoyang District is also a vibrant area rich in cultural attractions, boasting numerous museums, bookstores, and cultural and creative parks. On average, there is one museum for every 54,000 people residing in the district. Besides, the district has over 300 bookstores and city reading spaces, as well as more than 100 cultural and creative parks. Last summer, the Liangma River, with wide walkways and green spaces built alongside, became a popular destination in the capital.
Chaoyang District is the largest urban region in Beijing. It has the largest number of popular sites for visiting. Among these, the Chaoyang Greenway is particularly beloved by cyclists and runners. In addition, visitors can explore Wenyuhe Park, renowned as Beijing's largest ‘green lung’, the iconic Beijing 798 Art Zone, and the vibrant Langyuan Station in the district. Notably, the only traffic light adorned with heart patterns in Beijing can be found near SKP Beijing, a famous big shopping mall. Wangjing Walk (Wangjingxiaojie) stands out as the most attractive neighborhood in the capital.
Chaoyang District is also a region famous for its culinary delights. In the MICHELIN Guide 2023 for Beijing, 36 restaurants have been awarded MICHELIN star restaurants, among which 21 are in Chaoyang District. The 2023 Black Pearl Restaurant Guide has picked 26 restaurants in the district. Chaoyang District has a higher concentration of cafes than New York and Tokyo, with 40 percent of the cafes in Beijing located here.
