Why I Enjoy Living in Chaoyang District: Insights from a Hungarian Diplomat
There is not only busy work
but also a lot to enjoy in Chaoyang
My name is Tamas Hajba. I arrived in China to study in 1992,and later served as a Hungarian diplomat in China. Since 2015, I’ve been working as the OECD’s senior adviser in China. 5 years in a row, I’ve attended the Traditional Chinese Medicine Forum of the China International Fair for Trade in Services. This event which has been jointly organized by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of traditional Chinese medicine and the Chaoyang district government, has served as an excellent exchange platform.
I became interested in traditional Chinese medicine many years ago. As Hungary was among the first European countries to accept traditional Chinese medicine. Nowadays, foreigners are becoming increasingly interested in traditional medicine, including traditional Chinese medicine. Therefore, I believe this is a very promising area for cooperation.
My children were both born in Chaoyang, so I have a special relationship with the district. It is a very appealing neighborhood due to the presence of foreign embassies. A large number of foreigners have chosen to reside here. For this reason, degree of internationalization is also significant. This is a location where domestic and foreign cultures coexist. To be closer to the embassies of the nations, there presents many national chambers of commerce that are also located in the area. Living in Chaoyang has numerous benefits. Infrastructure is developed and all essential services are available. In this sense, living here is convenient as there is little need to leave the neighbourhood.
I’ve been on business trips for the past 2-3 weeks, and I’ve just returned from another province, so I don’t have too much free time. But when it comes to the weekend, I would still like to visit cultural institutions in Chaoyang, such as the 798 Art Zone. A Hungarian friend actually happens to run a Jazz bar here.
When asked why I enjoyed residing in Chaoyang, I usually say that the district offers plenty of opportunities. There is not only busy work, but also a lot to enjoy in Chaoyang.
