Unveiling the Sculpture Exhibition in Olympic Forest Park: A Glimpse into "Dual Olympics District - Chaoyang" Through Light Show
The inaugural Beijing Chaoyang International Sculpture Invitational Exhibition, themed "Contemporary Chaoyang and New Style Sculptures," took place at the southern region of Olympic Forest Park during the 2023 Beijing Chaoyang International Light Festival. This exhibition offers citizens and tourists an opportunity to witness the singular allure of sculptures brought to life through the light show, and to experience the distinct charm of "Dual Olympics District - Chaoyang".
At nightfall, visitors strolling through the Olympic Sports Center Area would be captivated by the Beijing Olympic Tower, an impressive testament to the zeal emanating from Chaoyang District. Near the south gate of Olympic Forest Park, a collection of sculptures attracts passers-by to pause and have a look. From the elegant goddess of the Luo River, a caravan of camels traversing a desert at sunset, the serene and abstract Taihu Lake stone, to zipping shared bicycles, more than a hundred different styles of sculptures bath in the multicolored lighting exuded a distinctive charm, offering visitors a remarkable experience of the collision of classical and modern, realistic and abstract elements.
The exhibition incorporates diverse components, including a large-scale public art display, an exchange program featuring sculptures crafted by both local and international artists, and an urban new media light art exhibition. Each of them serves to interpret the theme of Chaoyang from a cultural perspective. Renowned contemporary art masters from China are invited and contemporary artworks that resonated with the light festival's theme and the fashionable spirit of Chaoyang are selected. Through the medium of contemporary art, the exhibition aims to explore the concept of "light" and to convey the cultural essence of Chaoyang, showcasing the interplay between ancient and modern as well as between Chinese and foreign cultures and further promoting the development of a vibrant Chaoyang. This sculpture exhibition will be ongoing until January 2024.
Moreover, the emerging digital light art in the exhibition also breaks through the limitations of traditional sculpture displays. By blending art, the surroundings, and digital technology, it effectively illuminates the Olympic Forest Park, making the captivating urban living accessible.
