Introduction to Beijing Inkstone Culture Museum
Beijing Inkstone Culture Museum is situated in the central office building of Hegezhuang Village, Cuigezhuang Township, Chaoyang District, covering an area of 740 square meters.
It has seven major exhibition halls, namely The History of Inkstones, A Constellation of Inkstones, Masterpieces of Famous Artists, Inkstones Used by Celebrities, Continue with the Past and Open up the Future, Art of Inkstone Rubbing, and Calligraphy and Painting Art.
The History of Inkstones Exhibition Hall primarily introduces the development of inkstones, which have been passed down generation by generation without interruption.
A Constellation of Inkstones Exhibition Hall introduces inkstone categories.
Masterpieces of Famous Artists Exhibition Hall displays the works of national art and craft masters.
Inkstones Used by Celebrities Exhibition Hall presents the inkstones used and collected by Party and state leaders, showing the outstanding achievements of the former leaders by displaying inkstones.
Continue with the Past and Open up the Future Exhibition Hall introduces and displays inkstones of milestone significance created by the museum, such as the Flying Sky Inkstone carried into space by Shenzhou 9 spacecraft and Jiaolong Inkstone carried into the deep sea by the Jiaolong submersible.
Art of Inkstone Rubbing is a temporary exhibition hall. It introduces and displays works combining inkstone rubbings with calligraphy and painting.
Calligraphy and Painting Art is also a temporary exhibition hall, showcasing the calligraphy and painting works of famous artists.
The museum houses 108 pieces (sets) of collections and 327 pieces are on display, including 206 square inkstones (of 51 varieties) and 121 calligraphy and painting works. Inaugurated on March 18, 2023, Beijing Inkstone Culture Museum has attracted more than 2,000 visitors and received a good social response. The museum is intended to protect, inherit, and develop the Chinese inkstone culture, popularize the knowledge of the inkstone culture, and inherit the Chinese civilization.
