The 2024 Liangma River International Art Season Is about to Kick off
To make people feel the unique cultural charm of Beijing’s Chaoyang District, continuously enrich the humanistic connotation of Liangma River in the new era and create a wonderful feast of Chinese and foreign arts, the 2024 Liangma River International Art Season will officially kick off on September 6 and last until November 6. As an important part of Beijing’s efforts to build it into a “Capital of Performing Arts”, this art season will bring citizens a feast of art integrating Chinese and foreign cultures through various forms such as performances and creative bazaars.
Specific Arrangements
Scheduled to be held from September to November, the two-month art season will constantly create an artistic atmosphere and hold more than 100 cultural activities around ten special themes.
(I) Opening Performances
Time: September 6, 2024
Venue: Century Theatre
Content: Beautiful porcelains reflect a greenish-blue sheen and a pure texture; Only I Am Qingbai uses dance to depict the beauty of those porcelains with simple colors, showing the charm of traditional Chinese aesthetics.

1. “2024 Latin American and Caribbean Arts Season”

Content: It plans to invite seven bands from Mexico, Colombia, Panama, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago and Chile to perform together to give people an opportunity to experience the passion of Latin American music.
2. Beijing International Canal Arts Festival
Time: October 2-4
Venue: Xidian Memory FunsTown
Content: It plans to invite cultural performance troupes and artists from 13 countries with canals—France, Germany, Mexico, Thailand, Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Greece, Colombia, Australia, Ecuador and Russia—to Beijing to perform together with Beijing's performing arts and intangible cultural heritage performance troupes. Cultural performances, exhibitions, creative bazaars, cultural and tourism promotions, visits to canals, and other activities will be organized both online and offline to strengthen cultural and tourism exchanges between Beijing and cities with canals worldwide and promote exchanges and mutual learning of civilizations.
3. Dance First Love—Beijing Modern Dance Troupe

Content: Modern dance is integrated into artistic hotel space, marking a new attempt to incubate a new performing arts space.
4. Opera La Bohème—China National Opera House
Time: October 11
Venue: Capital Library of China Theater
Content: With profound emotion and touching melodies, the opera performance will lead the audience into a melancholy story about love, dreams, separation and cherishing. It is not only an opera, but also a love letter to all lovers and dream chasers.
5. “Classic Film and Television Drama Songs from Traditional Chinese Music” Theme Performance—China Broadcasting Performing Arts Troupe
Time: October 25
Venue: Capital Library of China Theater
Content: This performance will depict a magnificent picture of classic films and television dramas with music, allowing the audience to recall the past in familiar music and taste the profound artistic conception created by touching music.
6. Dance Drama Pingtan Impression
Time: November 6
Venue: Century Theatre
Content: Yang Liping’s team maintains a consistently high level of dance art and stage effects. Over the past 50 years, they have created four “Impression Series” to present a breathtaking and touching dance epic. Pingtan Impression will be staged as a special performance to mark the conclusion of the art season to review and pay tribute to Yang Liping’s 50-year-long art career.
7. “Four Seasons Music” Ice Ribbon Series Concert—2024 Mayuan Poet “This Stop Is Mayuan”

Venue: Beijing National Speed Skating Oval (Ice Ribbon)
Content: As a post-Games marketization exploration of Winter Olympic venues, it is the first tour of Mayuan Poet in 2024. Mayuan Poet composed of a bunch of young artists was born and rose to fame at Mayuan, the utopia of Yunnan’s art aficionados. Its musical style that is implicit, subtle but strong, inclusive and open at the same time enjoys a unique aesthetic system, which is deeply loved by young people. “This Stop Is Mayuan” concert will fully demonstrate Mayuan Poet’s innovative musical thinking and artistic forms.

1. Musical Schumann's Music Dream

Content: Based on the life of Robert Schumann, a Romantic musician from Germany in the 19th century, it shows Schumann's struggle and growth as he pursued art in the face of realistic pressure through a series of dreamlike scenes. It is a musical that delves into how music and life as well as love and dreams are interweaved.
2. Candlelight Concert—Immersive and Romantic Concert of Famous Songs [Flickering Candlelight—Romance Never Ends]

Content: From classical to modern music, from folk to popular music, a variety of music styles are brought together. That flickering candlelight creates a vibe of romance that seemingly never ends.
3. Musical The Merchant of Venice

Content: It is a re-arrangement of Shakespeare’s classic comedy and an aesthetic interpretation of a legendary story. The environmental musical theatre will bring an interactive and wonderful presentation.

Content: International music integrating ethnic folk music and diverse pioneering elements
5. The 20th Anniversary of Participating in Les Choristes—Concert of the Film Album by Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc

Content: The world-renowned Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc will perfectly reproduce the original music of the film Les Choristes with the live accompaniment of the orchestra, bringing an unparalleled music experience for the audience.
6. Opera La Traviata Symphony Concert

Content: The opera La Traviata is one of the masterpieces created by Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi. The libretto was adapted by Italian librettist Francesco Maria Piave based on a tragedy of the same name by French novelist Alexandre Dumas fils.
7. Stage Play Kaku Mission—Fly over Rabbit King Star

Venue: China Puppet Theater
Content: It is a large, interesting and interactive parent-child stage play that integrates space travel, folk culture, puzzle solving, interactive games, song and dance performance, comedy and other elements popular with children. With the pursuit of happy energy as the core, it leads children to understand the power of happiness in the process of saving Rabbit King Star.
8. Puppet Show True and False Monkey King

Content: The unique performance form of puppetry will reproduce the classic literary work on the stage, which not only makes the work vivid and accessible, but also fully shows the incredible artistic charm of puppetry.
9. Stage Play I Love Beijing Tian'anmen

Content: Divided into six chapters, it is a large children’s stage play that embodies the national ethos and the essence of the times.
Joint promotion through a series of platforms will enhance the influence of performances and performing spaces, form a synergy to promote the cluster development of the regional performing arts industry, and help establish Beijing as a “Capital of Performing Arts”.

Content: The music festival is expected to have a strong lineup. Singers such as Wang Sulong and Xue Zhiqian are invited to create a music utopia, taking the audience on a happy soothing journey during which they can firsthand experience the magic and charm of music.
2. 2024 FECHOES Future Echo Music Festival
Time: September 6-8
Venue: Beijing Capital Group’s Langyuan Station
Content: During the festival, popular bands such as Soundtoy and Supermarket will gather at Langyuan Station. More than 50 distinctive bands and musicians, over 10 stages, over 10 digital artists, and several forum KOLs will create a paradise of art and music for the audience.

1. 2024 “Disney on Ice: Find Your Hero” Tour—Beijing Stop

Content: It is Disney’s only licensed ice show featuring interaction with more than 40 Disney animated stars. It is a super-large production that will bring a dreamy experience for the audience.
2. Folk Music Concert Bright Moon as Frost

Content: Set in the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal with a history of several thousand years in 1901 when a social reform was implemented in the country, the musical Northward tells the story of the characters heading north along the Grand Canal to Beijing and finally seeing hope after hardship.
5. Marc André’s China Tour—Double Bass Solo Concert

6. Drama Jane Eyre

Content: Adapted from Charlotte Brontë’s novel of the same name, the drama features a perfect combination of screenplay, acting, costumes, makeup, props, and other dramatic elements to immerse the audience in a strong British atmosphere and feel how precious love and spirit is within two hours.
7. Traditional Chinese Style Historical Dance Drama of the Tang Dynasty—Chang Hen Ge

Content: It invites a diverse variety of individual artists and art groups including national art troupes, strategic partner institutions in Beijing’s Chaoyang District, various levels of teams in charge of brand culture, inheritors of intangible cultural heritage and leading figures in the art circles to carry out special performances on key important days such as holidays.
2. Riverside Concert for the Mid-Autumn Festival

Content: SOLANA, in collaboration with Amusic Rights Management, organizes a summer music concert themed “Photosynthesis: A Musical Adventure” at the Aishen Square, kicking off a social party for young people.
- Beitou Shopping Park: Star Show Season

Content: This year’s lantern show continues the tradition of the previous nineteen versions, lighting up tens of thousands of homes and the city and fostering a pleasantly surprising and warm atmosphere for the Mid-Autumn Festival.
2. 2024 798 Art Festival
Time: from the end of September to the end of October
Venue: 798 and 751 art districts
Content: It will last for one month, during which nearly 100 art activities at home and abroad will be carried out.
3. “Beachcombing”—The 3rd SOLANA Art Season
Time: September to October
Venue: SOLANA
Content: It organizes an immersive scene art exhibition and an art bazaar for the beachcombing initiative in shops in collaboration with the Chaoyang Museum and three major professional art colleges.

During the art season, a series of highly anticipated concerts will be held at major iconic venues and modern performance spaces in Beijing’s Chaoyang District, such as the National Stadium (Bird’s Nest), National Indoor Stadium, Beijing Workers’ Stadium, and Century Theatre. These include but are not limited to global tours by internationally renowned pop stars such as Mariah Carey and The Chainsmokers in China; annual performances from top Chinese musicians like Hua Chenyu; ballet performances with rich historical heritage and artistic expression, such as Swan Lake and The Nutcracker; as well as innovative musical forms that blend genres featuring emerging artists like Ma Di, Yu Jiayun, and GAI (Zhou Yan).
