The signing ceremony, held during the 50th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic relations, reflects the two districts’ commitment to advancing the Belt and Road Initiative and deepening China-Thailand family-like relations. It also exemplifies China’s neighborhood diplomacy philosophy of “amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness”.

巴吞旺区位于泰国曼谷市中心地带，面积8.37平方公里，紧邻曼谷的母亲河——湄南河，在交通、景观和文化等方面优势独特。除了汇聚曼谷的主要商圈外，该区其他著名打卡地还包括曼谷艺术文化中心（Bangkok Art and Culture Centre）、吉姆·汤普森故居博物馆（Jim Thompson Heritage Quarter）、巴吞哇那南寺（Wat Pathum Wanaram）等。此外，被称为城市“绿肺”的伦披尼公园（Lumpini Park）则为曼谷居民提供了静谧的休憩空间。

Located in central Bangkok, the 8.37-square-kilometer Pathum Wan District lies along the Chao Phraya River, the “Mother River of Bangkok”, offering unique advantages in transportation, scenic landscapes, and cultural heritage. Beyond its bustling commercial hubs, the area boasts iconic landmarks such as the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, Jim Thompson Heritage Quarter, and Wat Pathum Wanaram, etc. Moreover, Lumpini Park, known as “urban green lung”, provides residents with a tranquil space to relax.

朝阳区与巴吞旺区的友谊最早可追溯至20年前：为庆祝中泰建交30周年，中泰两国决定在各自的首都，也是两座友好城市——北京和曼谷互建友谊亭。位于北京的中泰友谊亭坐落于朝阳区朝阳公园；位于曼谷的中泰友谊亭坐落于巴吞旺区的伦披尼公园。

The friendship between Chaoyang District and Pathum Wan District traces back 20 years: To celebrate the 30th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic ties, the two nations agreed to build reciprocal Friendship Pavilions in their capitals, Beijing and Bangkok—cities already bonded as sister cities. Beijing’s pavilion stands in Chaoyang Park, while Bangkok’s counterpart graces Lumpini Park in Pathum Wan District.

朝阳区作为首都对外交往的窗口区，汇聚了99%的外国驻华使馆、90%的外国驻京新闻媒体、80%的国际组织和国际商会、70%的跨国公司地区总部、70%的外资金融机构。

As the capital’s gateway for international engagement, Chaoyang District hosts 99% of foreign embassies in China, 90% of international media outlets in Beijing, 80% of international organizations and chambers of commerce, and 70% of multinational regional headquarters and foreign financial institutions.

Pathum Wan District, located in central Bangkok, is home to iconic commercial and cultural landmarks such as Siam Square, Central World, Gaysorn Tower, and foreign embassies, making it the heart of Bangkok’s business and cultural scene.

双方将开展哪些友好交流？

What will we do to promote friendly exchange?

朝阳区与巴吞旺地区在国际交往、国际消费及经济活力上高度契合。根据备忘录，双方将在经贸、科技、文旅、教育等领域开展友好交流并推进务实合作。今年，两区将积极促成合适的中小学校建立姐妹校关系，推动两区中小学校互学互鉴、共同发展，促进师生交往交流交融。

The two districts share strong synergies in international exchange, consumer markets, and economic vitality. Under the Memorandum, the two parties will enhance collaboration in trade, technology, culture, tourism, and education. This year, the two districts will facilitate the establishment of sister-school relationships between primary and secondary schools to promote mutual learning, shared development, and deeper exchanges among teachers and students.

在中泰命运共同体建设加速推进的当下，朝阳区与巴吞旺区的携手，将为两国高质量共建“一带一路”提供可复制的都市圈合作样本，书写“好邻居、好朋友、好伙伴”的时代新篇。

As the China-Thailand community with a shared future gains momentum, the Chaoyang-Pathum Wan partnership will serve as a replicable model for high-quality Belt and Road collaboration between urban hubs, further enriching the narrative of “good neighbors, good friends, and good partners”.

朝阳区的“国际朋友圈”都有谁？

More about Chaoyang District’s “Global Network”

自1993年与日本东京都港区签署《友好交流备忘录》以来，经过三十余年的发展，朝阳区先后与24个国家的30个城市（区）、国际组织建立了友好关系。朝阳区在亚洲有8个友城，其中分布在日本、韩国各2个，柬埔寨、老挝、越南和吉尔吉斯斯坦各1个。此次签约填补了朝阳区在泰国尚无友城的空白，对于巩固扩大朝阳“国际朋友圈”，助力北京市与曼谷市友好交往，服务中国特色大国外交都具有重要意义。

Since signing its first Memorandum on Friendly Exchanges with Tokyo’s Minato Ward in 1993, Chaoyang District has cultivated friendly relations with 30 cities/districts and international organizations across 24 countries over the past three decades. In Asia alone, Chaoyang has eight sister cities, including two each in Japan and Republic of Korea, and one each in Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Kyrgyzstan. This new partnership with Pathum Wan fills a key gap as Chaoyang’s first sister district in Thailand, significantly strengthening its global network, boosting Beijing-Bangkok ties, and supporting major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics.
