Charming Liangma River: Trendy River Course

    Written by , 27 October 2023
If you look out from a bridge, you may find that the Liangma River ripples gently in the autumn wind. Office buildings, business districts, as well as quiet embassy zones, stand on both sides of the river. Above them, one may capture the magnificent skyline of Beijing's CBD. The Liangma River, a tributary of the Bahe River, stretches for a mere 10 kilometers. In comparison to internationally renowned rivers such as France's Seine and the UK's Thames, it may appear small for Beijing, an international metropolis. Over ten years ago, the Liangma River was only a brook with poor water quality. Its concrete banks were steep and deep with office buildings nearby. However, the gates of these buildings faced away from the river. Not so many people were interested in roaming around. In recent years, the Liangma River has continuously amazed people with a series of changes. The first change happened in 2019. A total of 22 entities situated along the…

Nighttime Boat Ride on the Liangma River

    Written by , 15 November 2023
As the night descends upon the early autumn, brilliant lights illuminate the Liangma River along Beijing's East Third Ring Road. By the river, four ladies dressed in traditional attire are performing an enchanting symphony with Erhu, Pipa, flute, and Zhongruan. Across the tranquil river, a group of audience sits on the steps, captivated by the ethereal performance. A stones-throw away, reeds and lotus leaves cradle a stretch of pristine water, reflecting the colorful lights on the banks. Every now and then, a passing boat sends subtle ripples across the surface. Regarded as Beijing's "Golden Card", the Liangma River boasts a unique geographical location — it threads through the second and third embassy zones and flows across the three major commercial centers of Sanlitun, Yansha, and SOLANA, which makes it one of the most prosperous areas in the capital. The Liangma River is divided into four major sections with various themes from east to west. As one navigates by boat, a…
